Los Angeles (DPA). The U.S. network news Fox News Live Today show on TV how a man was shot in the head after a police chase over an hour on the roads of Arizona , near Phoenix .
The station had been broadcasting the chase for several minutes before the incident. It is unclear whether the man died from the shot.
Fox News began covering the chase from a helicopter after it was reported that the man had fired at the police officers.
Mea culpa
The cameras kept rolling when the suspect stopped the car on the side of the road and the vehicle fell. When I was running aimlessly in an area of bushes conductor cable chain Shepard Smith expressed some concern.
"You hope for an end to this sort of thing and worry about how they would end," he said. Seconds later the man stopped running, put the gun to his head and fired.
"Really we screwed up," Smith told viewers after a commercial break. The driver said the footage of the incident came five seconds later, so that producers have time to decide to stop the live broadcast. For Smith the incident should not have been issued. "We're very sorry. That does not match on television. "
